SOUQ Design designs and makes original furniture, homewares and artwork in collaboration with craftsmen operating from small factories.
Founded in 2014, SOUQ began with a retail store in Seminyak, Bali, that was named by Conde Nast as one of the most beautiful stores in the world. SOUQ Design has grown from the demand for our original collections of furniture, lighting and homewares that our now available to order through our website
Along with selling individual pieces directly to our customers, we work on both large-scale projects to produce entire fitouts of custom-fitted and loose furniture, sculptural objets and art pieces and also create single bespoke items for smaller high-end projects.
Our project work focuses on hospitality projects such as bars, restaurants, hotels and luxury villas both in Bali and internationally; we consider the design concepts that have been created for a space and bring the furniture and objects within it to life. Combining our design aesthetic and modern technology with the skills of artisans who make things by hand, we are able to turn away from mass production to provide our clients with pieces of individuality and quality.
Liasing closely with clients, architects, interior designers and procurement agents to achieve their vision, SOUQ has a team of creatives who work together to interpret and actualise concepts and ensure that specifications, budgets and timeframes are realized.
With a full logistics team we can coordinate treatment, documentation and clearance for international shipping.
Known for our use of unexpected and uncommon materials, SOUQ works with the unsung artisans of Indonesia whose talents are far more expansive than only the ubiquitous timber furniture they are known for.
In contrast to the culture of disposability, we believe passionately in small-scale production of unique pieces crafted with human hands, for its inherent sustainability, the organic beauty of the finished product, the importance of investing in people rather than machines and the preservation of the incredible heritage crafts that we have learnt and refined over centuries through human endeavour.
From brass and copper tables hand-forged in the jungle worksheds of Central Java to cotton and silks coloured in baths of indigo and tea to Italian UV-resistant rope braided by the skilled hands of traditional weavers, we enlist the best materials and artisan workmanship to provide our clients with special pieces that will endure in both design and quality.
