With sister venues in New York and London, Bodega Negra’s newest spot is the Middle East’s centre of swag, Doha. Bodega Negra is famed through all its international venues for its jaw-dropping and original interior fit-outs with each itineration being an inventive take on Central American style.
Bodega’s co-owner and inspired creative Serge Becker is the force behind the restaurant’s interior concepts working alongside interior designer Jason Volenec of New York based interior design studio Volenec Studio. SOUQ was thrilled to collaborate with this creative team working on all stages of design from the conception and detailed design of furniture to sourcing objets and tableware and creating original artwork.
The brief was to create a space where the patrons are voyeurs in the eclectic Mexican hacienda of a mysterious, worldly art-collector with a home full of décor and furniture amassed on his travels. Amongst the pieces made for both the interior and exterior spaces, SOUQ designed rich cherry red leather and teak dining booths, copper-topped tables, recreated vintage Mexican equipale chairs, hunted for antiques and worked with a team of local artists in Bali to develop twenty original artworks.
